Nicholas is an experienced and well known English commercial lawyer based in Bucharest. He started his carrier in London and was the managing partner of the law firm Hicks Arnold before moving to Romania. As head of Hicks Arnold he opened the office in Romania and subsequently worked for Taylor Joynson as head of their Bucharest office. After leaving them he set up Hammond and Associates, now Hammond-partnership as an independent law firm based in Bucharest. His wide knowledge of international law and its application in Romania has enabled him to act for a wide range of clients from major aircraft manufacturers, banks and fiancé institutions as well as private investors. His experience in commercial law is extensive and he is able to counsel clients in many fields.

The practise currently consists of eight Romanian lawyers who are experienced in many areas of Romanian law. The Firm is able to deal with major commercial matters including complicated M&A transactions as well as assisting in setting up companies. The Firm is often asked to advise on commercial agreements and their application in Romania and their effect under Romanian law. In addition the Firm also deals with family matters for a number of non-Romanian and Romanian clients. The Firm is active in a number of international law groups and is therefore able to assist in other jurisdictions as required.

The Firm has been involved in aviation matters including formation of local airlines; it has advised the sellers of aircraft in respect of investments in Romania. The Firm has advised pharmaceutical companies and drug manufacturers. It has dealt with banking, insurance and finance issues as well as banking and non-banking institutions. The firm’s clients have included international food chains as well as local companies. The firm deals with all levels of commercial issues from employment issues to real estate matters.

As it has an English solicitor the Firm can advise on English law matters as well as enabling clients to obtain the best advice in the United Kingdom. The Firm has advised clients from the PRC as well as all European Countries. The Firm advises US and north American companies and business as required.

Started as an article Clerk with Rowe and Maw and subsequently set up Hammond and Associates which merged with the old established firm of Hicks Arnold Rose Johnson, which subsequently became Hicks Arnold.
