The Chambers have a history of more than 60 years. Set up in 1950 by Mr. Phoebus N. Clerides, Barrister-at-law of Lincoln’s Inn. The Clerides family is well known in Cyprus as a family of teachers, lawyers and politicians. Mr. Phoebus himself served as Minister of Justice and a Member of the House of Parliament. He unfortunately passed away in 2011.

Dr. Christos Clerides, son of Mr. Phoebus is currently the Managing Partner of Phoebus, Christos Clerides & Associates LLC. Joined the firm in 1982. He acquired the LL.B (Hons) from Brunel University, the LLM from the University College of London specializing in Maritime Law, Carriage of Goods by Sea, Marine Insurance and General Insurance. He then continued his studies obtaining his Ph.D at King’s College, University of London, specializing in EEC Law.

He was also elected as a Member of the House of Parliament in 2001. He is currently Head of the Law Department at Frederick University, where he teaches law students

Dr. Clerides is a practicing Advocate and head of the Nicosia offices since 1982. He has handled numerous cases before the Supreme Court of Cyprus as well as high profile cases being appointed by the House of Parliament on several occasions and by the Attorney General of Cyprus.

Dr. Clerides also practices in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. He is co-founder of the International Association for the Protection of Human Rights in Cyprus established in 1999. He served as Honorary President and President of the Association.

He also served in the Human Rights Committee, the European Law Committee and the Legal Affairs Committee of the House of Parliament. He has tabled numerous laws and questions to Ministers in the House and has participated in numerous official delegations on behalf of the House of Parliament. He served in the Assemble of the Western European Union and its Committees in Paris as a member of the Cyprus team. He also attended numerous meetings of the Mediterranean dialogue of the NATO Assembly.

Dr. Christos Clerides has written numerous studies and articles in Legal affairs magazines and in the local press and is invited to speak in conferences, seminars and TV shows/Radio as an expert frequently. (See www.clerideslegal.com and www.youtube.com/christosclerides )

He served as a member of the Family Law Reform Committee, the report of which was adopted in substance culminating in the amendment of the Cyprus Constitution and the introduction of Family Law in Cyprus, abolishing the exclusive jurisdiction of the Ecclesiastical Court in matters of divorce.

Dr. Christos Clerides is married and has three children, all of which are practising lawyers at the firm after finishing their studies in the UK. His daughter, Phoebe Cleridou, LL.B, LL.M (UCL) joined the firm in 2008, his son Alexandros Clerides, LL.B, LPC (College of Law – London) joined the firm in 2013 and Constantinos Clerides, LL.B, LL.M, BVC (College of Law – London) joined the firm in 2016.

He lives and works at his Chambers in Nicosia, Cyprus.
