Simmons expands German presence with Munich launch

Published: Thursday, January 10, 2013

Simmons & Simmons set to open the firms’ third base in Germany with the launch of the Munich Office.

Simmons’ new office will open in March and will focus on contentious IP matters for technology and life sciences clients, as well as advising investment funds and asset management clients.

The office will initially be staffed three partners: IP specialist Thomas Adam, who joins Simmons from Field Fisher Waterhouse’s Munich office, which he helped establish; corporate lawyer Oliver Beyer, who joins from RBS RöverBrönnerSusat, where he helped lead the Munich office; and IP lawyer Rowan Freeland, who has been at Simmons since 1980 and is relocating from London. The partners will be joined by an unspecified number of associates.

In a statement, Simmons managing partner Jeremy Hoyland said: ”Germany is the fourth largest global economy and Munich is one of the most important commercial centres in the country. As such, our new office is an important step in expanding our offering to clients in our market-leading practices in the life sciences, TMT and asset management and investment funds sectors.”

Simmons opened its first German office in Düsseldorf in January 2001, following that up with a Frankfurt launch in July 2002.
