Peter is a partner of Hamilton, NZ, based law firm Tompkins Wake. The firm was established in 1922 and has strong links to the surrounding rural Waikato region.

Peter is an agri-business specialist who has been practising law for over 25 years. He also has considerable expertise in personal asset planning and property law.

Peter is actively involved with the formation and management of farming syndicates, equity partnerships (both large and small) and share milking arrangements. He has particular expertise in resolving share milking disputes. He advises farmers upon infrastructural matters effecting them as landowners including acquisitions for public works, wind and geothermal power generation and lines reticulation. His rural expertise has been recognised by his peers and he chairs the New Zealand Law Society Rural Transactions Committee.

Peter has considerable experience as a specialist in structuring entities for commercial property transactions. He also has considerable expertise with local body development projects having acted for a number of councils in many significant developments and projects. Those projects include provision of infrastructure, acquisition of land and development together with the creation of entities to undertake specific functions or hold assets. Peter has acted on a large number of significant property developments including large scale residential subdivisions, industrial estates, hotels and large rural lifestyle developments incorporating common facilities.
