Kobre & Kim extends offshore reach with Cayman Islands launch

Published: Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Two months after opening in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), US litigation boutique Kobre & Kim is launching an office in the Cayman Islands.

Kobre & Kim has teamed up with local practitioner James Stenning, who has been made a partner at the firm, to open an office in the Cayman Islands. London partner James Corbett QC will relocate from the BVI to the Cayman Islands to oversee the office, but will also continue to spend time in London and BVI.

The firm launched its BVI office in May in response to increasing levels of work in the jurisdiction from Asian clients.

Speaking about the new Cayman Islands office, Corbett said: “This is more demand-led than speculative. We have many clients and referral sources from Hong Kong and also Latin America and many of them have, as part of their corporate structures, companies in BVI and Cayman. We also deal with US-based hedge funds, which often have Cayman and BVI elements, too.”

Kobre & Kim also has offices in Hong Kong, London, Miami, New York, and Washington DC.
