Hogan Lovells launches in Indonesia

Published: Thursday, April 19, 2012

Hogan Lovells has entered into an association with Indonesia law firm, Hermawan Juniarto, as part of its strategy to develop a presence in important commercial, financial and growth markets around the world.

Hogan Lovells has acted over the years on an increasing range of Indonesia-related matters in the energy, natural resources and infrastructure sectors. As a result, it has become necessary for Hogan Lovells to have a presence in Indonesia to reinforce relationships with Indonesia-based clients, manage inbound transactions and matters locally for global clients and to develop new opportunities arising from what is one of the most dynamic markets in the global economy.

Jakarta-based Hermawan Juniarto comprises five partners and 17 associates, with dedicated corporate, finance, infrastructure, energy and litigation practices. Widely regarded as one of Indonesia's leading emerging firms, Hermawan Juniarto has ambitious plans to develop its practice in Indonesia. The association with Hermawan Juniarto aligns with Hogan Lovells' plans to further develop our South-East Asia practice and follows the recent relocation by the firm to significantly expanded premises at the new OUE Bayfront in Singapore.

Commenting on the association, Irawati Hermawan, the managing partner for Hermawan Juniarto, said: "Hogan Lovells' commitment to Asia over the past 30 years is impressive, and their success is reflective of their strategic approach to expansion in the region, where they are consistently recognised as one of the few genuine leading global legal practices in Asia. We are delighted to enter into an association with Hogan Lovells at this time. The resilience and sustainability of Indonesia's economic growth, which has seen the country recently upgraded to investment grade level by the leading credit agencies, provides significant opportunities for Hermawan Juniarto and Hogan Lovells to provide the very highest level of legal services to our clients both within Indonesia and globally."

David Harris, Hogan Lovells Co-CEO, said: "The continued development of our practice in South-East Asia is a strategic priority for Hogan Lovells. The association with Hermawan Juniarto is an integral part of our plan to develop our offering in Indonesia, a key growth market in South-East Asia and the global economy. We have worked hard to attain a leading reputation for our work in Indonesia, and we believe that our association with Hermawan Juniarto, the leading emerging firm in Indonesia's competitive and established legal sector, will further bolster our practice in the country and more broadly throughout South-East Asia."

Crispin Rapinet, Hogan Lovells regional managing partner for Asia and the Middle East, added: "Indonesia is the largest economy in South-East Asia, a member of the G-20 major economies, a country with extensive natural resources, a burgeoning domestic economy and an enviable demographic projection. The prospects for sustainable growth are impressive and supported by increasing inbound investment from our global client base.

"After a period of careful assessment we came to the conclusion that having an association in Indonesia was essential to the development of our South-East Asian practice, and Hermawan Juniarto provided an excellent match for our clients' needs."
