Allen & Overy has tied up with a Saudi Arabian firm led by one of its own partners, days after news broke that the magic circle firm’s previous sponsor in the country had signed a deal with Linklaters.

Allen & Overy has entered into an exclusive association in Saudi Arabia with Zeyad S Khoshaim Law Firm, Zeyad Khoshaim joined Allen & Overy as a partner in 2010 from the magic circle firm’s then Saudi sponsor Abdulaziz AlGasim. He is qualified to practise in Saudi Arabia and New York and will continue as an A&O partner.

Allen & Overy will second lawyers to Zeyad S Khoshaim Law Firm, including banking partner Julian Johansen and corporate partner Johannes Bruski, both of whom were already on the ground in Riyadh.

In a statement, Allen & Overy senior partner David Morley said: “Our association with Zeyad underscores Allen & Overy’s continuing commitment to Saudi Arabia. Zeyad’s practice is strategically aligned with Allen & Overy’s and we trust that our association with him will enable us to better serve our global and regional clients.

“Securing an association with Zeyad and his team we will also provide great continuity for our clients and ensures our high standards of service will be maintained during this transition.”

Allen & Overy and Abdulaziz AlGasim called time on their relationship in June, having initially signed up to the deal for a five-year term. The association with Zeyad S Khoshaim Law Firm has no fixed term.
