4-5 Gray's Inn departures benefit Matrix, Landmark and 11KBW

Published: Thursday, November 1, 2012

London set 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square has seen the exit of six members including silk Paul Brown QC, with Matrix Chambers, Landmark Chambers and 11KBW adding two new barristers apiece.

Brown is set to join planning set Landmark Chambers on Monday. Called to the bar in 1991 Brown took silk in 2009 and is a specialist in town and country planning, acting for local planning authorities, developers and third-party interest groups at all stages of the planning process.

He joins Lisa Busch at Landmark, who was added to the set’s roster earlier this month following her resignation from 4-5 Gray’s Inn. Busch, who also has a practice coveting local government, environmental and planning law, was called to the bar in 2000.

Inner Temple set 11KBW, which is about to kick off a recruitment drive in an effort to expand chambers, has also added two new members from the set. Public law and human rights barrister Charles Bourne was called to the bar in 1991. He is joined at the set by Andrew Sharland, who was called to the bar in 1996. 11KBW said Sharland’s expertise in education law, which also includes admissions, exclusions and special educational needs, fits with its core practice areas.

Matrix, meanwhile, has boosted its ranks with the addition of public law barristers Sarah Hannett and Chris Buttler. Hannett was called to the bar in 2003, while Buttler, who has built a following in judicial review cases, was called a year later in 2004.

4-5 Gray’s Inn silk Peter Village QC said of the departures: “We’re sorry to see these members of chambers leave, but we don’t need to wish them good luck because the future of all former and present members of 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square is assured.”

At the 2011-12 year-end 4-5 Gray’s Inn was home to 56 members, including 16 silks. The departures bring its total membership tally to 50.
