China's IP clamp down

The Chinese deputy minister of commerce, Jiang Zengwei (pictured), has said that there will be a significant clamp down on the production and sale of counterfeit goods in China next year.

The move comes in the wake of criticism regularly faced by China regarding fake goods and will relate to products such as CDs, medicines, cigarettes and pirated software.

It is the first such move after an agreement in Beijing to tackle intellectual property issues back in November.

China has long has a problem with the protection of IP rights, and is somewhat renowned world-wide for sale of counterfeit goods.
