Finance chiefs appointed by Freshfields

Published: Thursday, August 2, 2012

David Trott has succeeded Alan Newton as head of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s global finance practice.

In September Alan Newton will be returning to full-time client work, as David Trott begins a four year term as head of the Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s global finance practice.

Restructuring and insolvency head Ken Baird is set to take on the role of London finance chief, a new role which sees the London part of the finance brief, previously overseen by Newton, hived off into a separate City position. Trott and Baird will work together running the finance practice, with Trott managing the global aspects and Baird the London piece.

Newton replaced Perry Noble in the global role in 2008.

Freshfields senior partner Will Lawes said in a statement: “Alan began this role as the credit crunch first started and has led the group during some incredibly difficult market conditions, enabling strong progress and developing an exceptional offering to our clients to help them deal with extremely complex and business critical financing needs.”

Trott added: “Alan has been instrumental in moulding an exceptionally strong and balanced platform which I am convinced is very well placed to exploit the rapidly evolving market conditions that we face. We have a wonderful franchise and a group of enormously talented people working for fantastic clients. I look forward very much to the challenge of leading this group in the coming months.”
