New managing partner named for Allen & Gledhill

Lee Kim Shin has been appointed as the new managing partner for Allen & Gledhill.

As Lucien Wong will be taking on the new role of chairman and senior partner for Allen & Gledhill from August 1st, Lee Kim Shin will be taking his place as managing partner.

Lee currently serves as co-head of the Singaporean firm’s corporate and commercial practice group. He will serve a two-year term as managing partner from August 1st. He has been the group head since 2007 and has been with the firm for over 20 years.

Under Wong’s leadership, Allen & Gledhill has established itself as a top player in Singapore’s legal services market. Until recently, the firm had a joint law venture with Linklaters, an agreement that was in place for for 11 years.

At the end of last year, the firm entered discussions with Allen & Overy regarding a tie-up, but the talks were terminated in late March this year.

It is understood that the changes come as part of the firm’s management succession plans, as the retirement age is 62 under Allen & Gledhill’s retirement policy. Wong, who is 59 years old, has been managing partner for the past 14 years and has been with the firm since 1987. As chairman and senior partner, Wong will continue to be actively involved in overseeing the partnership and will head its executive committee. He will also focus on the firm’s overall strategic direction and initiatives, major policies and client relationship.
